If you ever looked for an anime in which the characters could change drastically of humor from amazingly cute to psychotic, even murderous? Well then Higurashi is definitely for you. Higurashi brings up not only characters with drastic change of personality, but also tons of blood, murderers and cute girls. If you haven’t seen Higurashi, you probably never heard those on a same sentence before if you start seeing it you will realize that I’m not lying.

I’m just going to give out a warning; Higurashi DOES contain scenes with excessive amounts of blood, and if you aren’t into those kind of animes you probably might want to skip it… Though it’s never late to begin.

Wow. When you start seeing Higurashi the first you probably will do is try to understand the plot. You will probably get an idea of what’s going on, and suddenly that idea is going to betray you. Soon enough you won’t know what on Earth is happening and eventually you’ll reach a point in which you will think that the story is pretty random and has no sense at all… you’d be surprised. As a matter of a fact Higurashi’s first season is quite confusing and you might get a vague idea of the complete scenario; it won’t be until half of the second season when you actually get the whole point. The most surprising part is that even with a plot as complicated as this, everything, everything they do has a meaning (at least up to s2) in the story.

Now concerning season 3, Rei was more (and is actually considered) like an OVA to the series so it doesn’t actually forms part of it, but it is placed chronologically after the second season. Don’t worry, it barely contains fan-service, and it still keeps that essence that made Higurashi.

[Animation 5/5]

Higurashi changed animation styles in the first and the second season. Personally I think that second season animation was much better than first season’s during the “happy” moments, and first season has simply the best animation for the “dark moments.” The characters were animated in a way that not only emphasized their emotions, but it even looked good with their abrupt changes. The illumination also helped greatly for example,  there are scenes in which the lights are pretty dim which helps to create quite a mystery atmosphere.

As I’ve said before Higurashi was characterized for abrupt changes on the characters emotions, but definitely it wouldn’t have the same impact if the changes weren’t done followed with a good background music. What I’m trying to say is that the background music played an elemental job during the anime, it created an atmosphere could bring you to tears or keep you in a great suspense; surprisingly it didn’t stand out to the point it distracted your attention from the anime; it just stayed in the background as it should supporting the moment.

Higurashi isn’t only your typical anime full of stereotype characters, some of them do have stereotype characteristics, but their real personalities are quite different from what you normally see on your romance comedy. Every single character has a mixes personality that is not only cute or tsundere (or murderous); it is more like a mix between all of them and depending on the character a different and very distinct personality is created. Another thing I would like to point out is that all the characters had their very own  “fillers” which described their personality even better.

First of all I wanna make clear that I didn’t arbitrarily rated Higurashi with just 5s because I liked the anime, but the other way around. Higurashi is great anime not just because the animation is good, or because the music fitted this situation, but because it is a compilation of an awesome story, with nice animation and with an awesome background music support. Now by rating it with 5 I don’t mean the anime is perfect since there’s no such thing as perfection,  it means that is an anime that is totally worth your time watching and that it’s most likely that it won’t disappoint you. Just to give an example, if I were rating just season 1, I’d probably would have rate the story with a 2.5 since  it wasn’t til season two when I could understand the plot, yes the change was that radical. So I’m not trying to make you see it, or make you think about it as a good anime since the review was made as objective as I could, and after all you’ll make your own opinion if you see it.

To conclude: Higurashi is the “one of a kind anime” that you won’t get ever again, not even “Umineko No naku Koro Ni” has got near to what is Higurashi, that’s why I fully recommend seeing Higurashi.

“Are your ready Guys? Put ya guns on! Here we GO!!!” Being honest, this was my favorite anime of spring 2009 season. The show pretty much goes like this: “Guy vs a Beast-load of people, explosion, beast-load of people flying on the air.”; seriously, this anime is one of the best action animes I’ve seen; it IS worth of seeing it.

Sengoku Basara’s story isn’t something specially good, I would say it’s pretty much an average story: “Go to the boss, kill everyone that’s in front of you, defeat the boss save the princess and the day”… Um wait a second, there was no princess to save… Oh well then it’s just a defeat everything story, but don’t be so concerned about it; the anime itself it’s good so no need to worry too much about the story.

Animation [5/5]

Maybe the story wasn’t extraordinary, but Sengoku Basara definitely won thumbs up in the animation.  SB uses an animation style that fits the kind of story perfectly, the fighting animations were fluid and they had auras! Explosions everywhere and of course sparks and flashes of the clash of swords. The relieves were also used in a way in which you could clearly see them at points which gave a sense of variety and only pumped you up more.

Wow. Wow indeed, this anime used a pretty good animation/sound combo. First of all the sound effects were pretty good, but of course that’s not everything; the background music was actually used in a way that helped to create nice atmospheres and helped to keep the emotion to the maximum. Now to make it better, the Sieyu on this anime made and excellent work developing voices that fitted the characters perfectly and described their emotions without loosing their essence.

I must say that for a 12 episode long anime, it had quite a lot of  main characters, and which is even better, the character development wasn’t left out in most of the cases. Every single character had his very own personality and some characters even had another character that complemented with their personality. I also most say that I loved the armors of the main characters.

Swords, explosions, and people flying, anything with these 3 is already a good anime, but when you combine it with an EXCELLENT animation, and a perfect usage of sound effects you can create an anime that is totally worth watching it… more than once! Now if you finish the anime and still feel you want more, don’t worry! A second season is allready planned for 2010, I’m totally looking forward it.

K-On! has been one of the most famous animes of this season, when I saw the first episode I thought :”Wow, this anime will be pretty random.” Guess what? I was right.

Being a slice of life anime, I didn’t expected too much plot out of it. Most of the anime, well basically all, is just a bunch of random events with not connection at all; the whole point of the anime is the life of some girls that created a music club (Which is named K-On). Since there’s no concrete plot there isn’t too much to say about it either; I just want to point out that I don’t think that the anime needed a better plot, it’s already acceptable as it is now since the anime itself is categorized as Slice of Life.

If K-On lacked story, it definitely made up with the animation. K-On has a style completely different from what Kyoto Animation normally does, but I must say that it’s quality still remains: Nice illuminations, good backgrounds, though the limbs might look a bit deformed at times it’s still something you can overlook. When I saw K-On for first time I had a little Flashback of “Kannagi”; the animations resemble and the motion is quite similar, so if u ever saw Kannagi and you liked its animation you might as well want to check this one out.

Ironic isn’t it? Being a music anime, the sound was supposed to be more noticeable than in a normal anime, but that wasn’t the case. Indeed the sound gave a hand in some situations, but it wasn’t something that you could notice. Honestly I expected a bit more from the sound K-On, but it rather…. average. Putting aside that, the voices were done nicely and they gave a very good impression, I did liked that aspect.

K-On strong/selling point was the large quantitys of moe that it had which is probably the reason of why the character development was so well done. The personalities of the main characters were obviously taken from stereotypes  but still it doesn’t feels like they are 100% stereotypes; the characters have their own personality and they’re just not a pack of fanservice. So if the personalities are stereotypes, why is the score so high? Well, most animes that use moe personalities overuse them and sometimes it feels as if they only wanted to sell more, but in K-On it doesn’t feels like they’re over used, or that they are forcing themselves to use them; they are used in a more natural way.

It’s sad that K-On  based it’s popularity in moe, but still it’s an anime that I enjoyed to see. Some people criticize it, and others defend it; I’m just going to say that from an objective point of view wasn’t an awesome anime, but still it’s an anime that you can definetely enjoy to see if you aren’t a “Slice of life” hater.

Some people laughed sarcastically while saying: “Quite a good start for a game isn’t it?” , but when you think about it, it is since it proves that people are expecting a lot from the game, and that the GMs didn’t expect such big wave of people to log in the first minutes.

Your daily MMORPG with some not-so-daily features. Luna Online has some features that you don’t see on all MMORPGs. The game gives you the possibility to date, make a family, farm, fish and lots of other things. The game also implements some other funny features like monsters talking while you grind.

> Wow, so I can already do all that?!

Sadly no. There are lot’s of features that aren’t implemented yet on the Closed Beta, since they don’t want to throw all the fun out already. Still and even if there weren’t many functions out already I did enjoy leveling to the top level, and even if there are things that can get better, I must say that I have high hopes for Luna Online.

Yes, at first sight in comparison with other games Luna Online doesn’t provide such a big character customization, but  this makes up with casual cloths you can wear and how the job trees branch a lot. The top level on Closed Beta is 40, and one job change. Even like that, I still haven’t found my “twin” yet.

One of the things I liked the most from Luna Online is that as soon as you log in, you receive a “warm welcome” by Luna itself! Of course when you log in for first time you don’t know what to do, but fear not! While you’re playing a little light bulb appears below the mini-map you have on the top-right corner. If you click it, a VERY FRIENDLY tutorial will appear, and it will give you tips and trick through all the game. If you did’nt read it or accidentally closed it, you can always see your past tutorials pressing the key ‘T’.

> Hey is it hard to level on Luna?

What I did notice, is that it’s quite easy to level while you still have available quests. Let me explain; there are lots of quests that facilitate quite a lot leveling, some of them are even repeatable. The problem is when you run out of quests, which happened to me on levels 37 to 40. Since the available quests were on maps that are not released yet, I had quite a hard time grinding. The main reason is that if you kill monster that’s more than 5 levels above you you get a exp penalty and get less exp than the one you should. I really don’t know how this will be on the future, but I just hope we can still have fun killing on higher levels.

>Wow, Luna seems quite the game. Is it flawless?

Of course… not. As good as it sounds Luna also has downsides. Some of the biggest are:

a) No widescreen resolution: Many people have complained already about it, there’are no widescreen resolutions in Luna, though the GMs have already said that they looking into this. Hopefully we’ll see it on either Open Beta or the Live version.

b) No WASD movement: Luna Online only supports point a click movement; even if the movement is quite fluid there are sometimes when you desperetely want wasd, specially if you’re using a touchpad. I even know some people that quitted Luna since point & click irritated them.
Luna GMs said that they looking into this too, but from my point of view if this feature ever comes out it will be on v2.0 or something like that.

c) Kill Stealing: Luna has an auto-loot system, still it is VERY EASY to Kill Steal someone because according to Luna: last hit gets monster. This means that the person that gives the last hit to a monster will be the one receiving the credit for killing it, so this makes extremely easy to KS someone, sometimes even by accident… ya right.

d) Friend System: I can honestly say that the thing that I disliked the most from Luna Online is the friend system. It’s not ordered by who is online or not, but by the order you added them, the only difference from a online contact and an Offline is Online name is on “Blue”, and Offline Name is on “Gray”. Talking to a friend is also quite hard since chatting is based on notes. You can send a note to a friend, and the only notification he will get is a one-line message on the chat box that says: “You have an unread Note.” which is extremely easy to miss even if you’re not afk because the chat box also displays the loot info; so you can happily get a reply one hour after you sent your message.

Freeze!

Overall Luna Online IS quite the game. As I have stated before, it implements features that you don’t see on every MMORPG, and from the very little peek I got from it, I must say that the game is really promising. Yes, of course there are things that aren’t working at 100% and that there are some things that are not even working as they should (Word Censor), but hey! It’s still the Closed Beta. We can’t grade it as the Live version because that’s what Closed Betas are all about! Test, and Fix.

Honestly I hope that most of the bugs get fixed, so we can actually have a nice Live version, and one of the best MMORPG we can get to play.

“A healthy soul resides in a healthy mind and a healthy body”. This phrase was said at the beginning of every episode of Soul Eater. Before anything I have to say that Soul Eater is one of the animes that I have liked the most recently; indeed, Soul Eater is a good anime that has dragged the attention of many and that created many fans; therefore, I’m going to try to make this review even more objective than I normally do, so if I say something bad about Soul Eater that will be as a result of a comparison with other animes (that I won’t mention to maintain the objectiveness), and not only my sole opinion.
Over all the times I’ve reviewed, I’ve discovered that whenever you review, people won’t complain, if you rate something that was famous as good, but they will whenever you say something bad about it, even if you rate it high; therefore I’m going to ask you that if I say anything bad about “Soul Eater” don’t go blaming me for doing so; I’m just doing it so people that haven’t seen it yet can get the right idea of what they are about to see, and that at least read the complete review, because the review will be constructive, not destructive.

Yes 3.8. I couldn’t decide between 3.5 and 4; 3.5 was to low, and 4 was too high.
> Wha- what? that’s too low for Soul Eater!
Maybe the number might look a little low, but I think that that’s the grade best suited for it. Even though the plot overall was pretty good, I just can’t simply ignore that it left many floating threads, many missing spaces, many parts of the story that were told once, that seemed as important and that were either never remembered, or solved in a ridiculous way. Personally (Yes this last point will be an opinion) I think that making the anime larger would have resulted in a more interesting plot, and development of the events.
> Hey wait! That’s not fair! Soul Eater was still better than this! There were times where I almost cried!
Yes. I’m aware that there are some very emotionally intense scenes that really brought up Soul Eater to a very good anime.

Soul Eater plot does have one big, BIG flaw. The end wasn’t good. it’s not like the end was a total fail, but it wasn’t what Soul Eater deserved. Tell me my friend that has already seen Soul Eater. Do you really think that Soul Eater used a good method to deal with the last conflicts? Don’t you think that it seemed that they forced the anime to end? Are you REALLY satisfied on how the Kishin was defeated? Weren’t you pumped up when Maka became a weapon?  Why, then why was  the Kishin defeated by such a simple and trivial matter??? Weren’t you disappointed by it? Didn’t you wanted it to end with an awesome fight? The end does indeed has a message, but what would you choose, a message, or a incredible battle with a message?
Think about it.

Ok yes, Soul Eater plot was good, and the reason I rated a but low was a bit subjective. Therefore, I’m going to re-rate Soul Eater, something I don’t do normally.

Creepy o.o;;

[Animation 5/5]

Not everything on Soul Eater had mistakes or was incomplete; the animation was indeed awesome. There were different kinds of illuminations for the different situations that were presented on the anime: happy,sad , suspense, etc, all suited the situation. Of course the battle animations were excellent, fluid, you don’t loose the track of what’s happening even with the smokescreens/explosion that appeared. The backgrounds varied from simple to detailed, depending on the situation/place in which the action was happening; [Personal Comment =>] one of my favorite background features, was the bleeding moon that appeared from time to time when they battled.

Summarizing: The animation in Soul Eater was awesome, since there’s lots of variety on it.

Being a mid-long length, Soul Eater could make use of a lot of different situations, and had the possibility to fully make use of the sound. At times, the soundtracks were critical in the anime, they  gave a good sense of what was happening and made u realize the atmosphere that was developed in that moment; even so, they never were outstanding to the point in which you pay more attention to the soundtracks than to the anime. The sound effect also involved you into the story/fight that was developed, and were always fitting to the situation.

Finally the actor-voices used in Soul Eater actually helped to understand the personality of a character, along with the animation. Just to put an example [not a big spoiler], we have the sometimes irritating voice of Black Star which helped understand that he was arrogant, but the tone of honesty that appeared most of the time made you understand that he was pretty reliable.

Summarizing: Sounds, sound effects and voice acting were used correctly on Soul Eater.

Random Fight Scene

One of the problems that Soul Eater probably faced is the fact that there are 7 main characters on Soul Eater, each with a different personality. The Good Part is that they somehow managed to give every character enough screen time to be considered as main characters. The bad Part is that, as I have stated before, there were lots of stories that weren’t finished as they should, and that sometimes you could completely forget the existence of a secondary character.

Taking that aside, the character development was indeed pretty good. The psychology of each character evolved into something different; the design of the character, helped you understand even more the role that the character. Yes, the characters role was correctly done on Soul Eater.

Overall Soul Eater IS a good anime. It has flaws no doubt about it, and those flaws are placed where they shouldn’t, but strictly talking Soul Eater is an anime with which you will laugh, be in suspense, and enjoy to the fullest. Be warned that even as a good anime, the parts where Soul Eater failed, are parts that will probably affect how you saw the anime, and parts that might make you unsatisfied about it.
Then again, it’s you the one that will see (or not) the anime, and the one that have a personal opinion about it; so it’s perfect if you see it and like it, or disliked; I’m just saying:

You are warned.

It’s show time! Believe me; I won’t say this often, but this anime is f** up, on all the extension of the word. Laughs? Sure alot. Good laughs? from time to time. Rated ‘E’ for everyone? Hell no! This anime contains lots of grown-up language [not many images], so I believe this isn’t the kind of anime that a kid is looking for.

Though this anime did had more story than other romance comedies on the season; there were still too many randomness so we can’t really say that the anime has a real plot. The “mini-stories” are enjoyable, and the “big plot “isn’t that bad at all. Pretty much an average random-comedy story.

Well the animations was pretty regular, though I liked the illumination on the characters (AKA light colors) The backgrounds weren’t too detailed, but there were 1 or 2 where you could appreciate a “nice view.” The animations was pretty much average… well we can even see that the opening used the same animations just with different music. Lazy people. >>

Wait, I’m realizing this anime was pretty average!  *Ahem

Well yes, the sound wasn’t exactly Akikan’s strong point, nor was it a bad point. Normal soundtracks that followed the situations/atmosphere without reinforcing them. The sounds effects did helped a bit on the stressing situations, but I think that’s about it.

The character development  wasn’t really extensive psychologically talking. We can say  it’s a classical harem around a honest pervert (though we do have pervert women…) Anyways, I think that I must say that I really liked how the Akikans were designed animation-talking, cosplay dress like? Maybe. But I think that their costumes do deserve an ovation. *waves.

At first glance Akikan! is just another “romance comedy”, which in fact is true from a point of view, but we do have to mention, that for a normal romance comedy, this anime is lots more perverted. Is that good? Totally depends on you.

Akikan! does has a good sense of originality, so if you laugh at perverted joke, you’ll enjoy it.

Every now and then, we get to see an anime that’s totally out of the normal stereotypes; we also get to see a comedy anime that makes fun of the current stereotypes. I think that Maria Holic is a weird combination etween the both, but the result was in fact pretty good; an anime I would totally recommend for someone that is looking for a good laugh, and that isn’t to sensitive to shoujo-ai and cross dresser scenes.

Story? Wait did this anime had story? Haha nah. It was a pretty random, but that’s what this comedy anime it’s all about. The episodes are pretty unrealted to each other; each with their own mini-story.

Well, I don’t know if we can call it a “prank” or a hint for a season 2, but in the very last moment, they gave out a sign of plot… I laughed at the irony.

You know? One of the things I liked the most of Maria Holic is that it used different animation styles on one chapter; from the normal one, to the chibi-cute and even the classic shoujo with the star-like bright eyes. The combination of the 3 made the anime even funnier and gave it an original touch.

What to say… There are good second seasons out there. I’m pretty sure that many will agree when I say that Clannad After Story it’s not one of them. Ya, I totally think that the first and second seasons are on completely different levels, and I’m going to explain why on the next paragraphs.

0 [Story 2/5]

I still have a doubt about this seasons plot. Was Kyoto Animation trying to do something “new”, or was it just looking for a way to sell more? Seriously, this anime has one of the weirdest plot I’ve ever seen, and it’s not like the plot its bad or something, but being a sequel of such a good anime such as Clannad, I expected alot more from it.

Summarizing, the plot feels really weird coming from such good harem prequel, but if you really liked Clannad, and you really want to know what happened after it, you should watch it, though it might not fullfill your hopes.

Yup I’ll have to admit it, the animation is flawless. Kyoto Animation has always surprised me with the excellent animations that it provides. There are even some scenes (from the “girl of the other world”) that totally surprise me as the animation looks awesome. If Clannad After Story plot was a deception, at least the animation was as good as ever.

During all the anime, Clannad always had that slow soundtracks that sometimes give me te creeps, but anyways the sound is well applied though in most of the times, it was irrelevant. Pretty much an average soundtrack, not alot to say about it.

While the original Clannad gave us a very good character development, I felt that CAS destroyed a lot of it, the old characters barely appeared and the plot was mostly controlled by the main ones. It’s not as bad as it sounds, but its definitely not as good as it should.

Was I dissapointed? Yes, alot.

Do we Expect more seasons? For the good of the anime, I hope not.

Is it worth seeing? If you’re a real fan only, or you have enough time to waste.

It’s been already some months since I wrote this review, and my attention has been caught by all the love comments you’ve been leaving lately. My stand is firm, and I won’t change nor what I wrote in here nor how I scored it, BUT I will acknowledge something:

Of ALL the people I know that have seen After Story I’m the ONLY one that actually didn’t liked it.

So if you actually wondering whether you should see it or not, bear in mind that you might actually like it.

Hell I’m late, get ready, here comes the review avalanche.

I’ve said it before; when JC Staff is in good humor it makes VERY good series, in this season they were ToraDora! and To Aru No Majutsu Index. (When it is on bad mood it makes 3rd seasons of Zero No Tsukaima and Ikkitousen.)

*Yaaaaaawns. I love the smell of good plots in the morning.

We have to admit it, there are good animes out there; and ToraDora! is one of them. One of the things I loved the most from ToraDora! the most is that no matter how near it was to the end, I couldn’t guess what was coming next. The story completely drags you to the moment and involves you in a form in which you can only be interested on what’s going to happen next; which is highly appreciated in a romance-comedy.

If you’re looking for a romance ainme with a good story, ToraDora! definetly is an option.

ToraDora! offered us nice animation. The illumination isn’t the best I’ve seen, yet there were times where that little illumination made some great scenes, which to avoid spoilers I won’t mention. Detailed  backgrounds, nice contrasts, in a rather unused animation, made it totally worthy of seeing.

In ToraDora! sound didn’t played an important role as it has in another productions, it’s not like it was wrong, but it isn’t nothing special. In other words, the sound it’s just good. Average if you wan’t to say it like that.

Personally I think that ToraDora! could and should had abused more of the sounds/sound effects.

[Characters 5/5]

Definitely the characters were ToraDora! ‘s strong point. The character development was explendid psycologically and graphically. As any harem anime, each character had it’s own story it’s own deceptions, goals, and past, but ToraDora!s main characters followed thier own personallity even when on troubles. Let me explain, normally when there’s a conflict with a character on any anime, their personallity  changes; on ToraDora! each character had thier conflicts, but they dealed with it on their own ways, which is actually one of the things I enjoyed of it.

I must admit it, for a romance-comedy ToraDora! brings a quite unique way to enjoy the story. Good animations, character development, and of course romance & comedy.

Very good production, if you’re looking for a romance anime, ToraDora! should be on your list.
